STEM: ASES

Research guide for STEM.

Summer Engineering Camp

The five-week summer engineering camp for incoming Associate of Science in Engineering Science (ASES) students wrapped up on July 7 in Uvalde.

Local area high schools participated in the camp; earning college credit in pre-calculus and college physics while working on engineering projects with Oscar Gaytan, mathematics instructor, and Brandon Gurwell, engineering instructor.

Students visited with Texas Department of Transportation engineers and toured the construction site of a new 1.8 million square foot consolidated rental car and public parking facility at the San Antonio International Airport.

The 2017 Engineering Camp will now be known as the STEM Boot Camp. Please visit the STEM Boot Camp tab for more information.

Project Lead the Way

Southwest Texas Junior College is pleased to provide advanced placement credit to students who successfully complete a selected series of certified Project Lead the Way courses while enrolled in secondary education at either SFDRCISD or EPISD.

History

Angelo State University was awarded a five-year, $2.87 million grant under the U.S. Department of Education Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions program for a cooperative project between ASU and Southwest Texas Junior College that is titled “Strengthening the Engineering Pipeline in West Texas” (STEP West Texas).

Since Fall 2015, Southwest Texas Junior College has offered an Associate of Science in Engineering Science (ASES) degree that will articulate fully with engineering programs at major universities around the state through career pathways. The civil engineering career pathway with Angelo State University and other STEM career pathways can be viewed under the STEM Career Pathways tab above or at the link below.
